Mersey Champions

The Mersey Champions campaign was launched by The Mersey Partnership in April 2001 to engage local people in promoting their region and to keep them informed of the many positive developments happening across the Liverpool City Region.

The campaign was an instant success and over the years more than 6,000 people registered.

Many 'Champions' played a part in impressing the Capital of Culture judges, they also volunteered for various projects, took part in debates, opinion polls and questionnaires and gave us plenty of news stories and feedback.

Following developments in the role of The Mersey Partnership, in August 2007 we felt the time was right to move the campaign to the next natural step - the 08 Ambassador Programme. We therefore contacted all our Mersey Champions and encouraged them to become 08 Ambassadors and continue their good work in these exciting times for the Liverpool City Region.
